Parents will remain on site, helping with the transition into play, with the option to remain in the play space or visit the adults' space, for work or socializing, once the little one is happily settled.
The adults' space:
A cozy room that has hardwood floors with wool rugs, plug-ins, and modest furnishings. The adult space is perfect for relaxing, peeking out at the garden, or experiencing some quiet work time. A covered deck area is also available as an adult space. Parents will need to use their phones for internet connection in the adult spaces. Phone calls can be taken in the Front Garden or the lobby.
The children's experience: water, earth, plants, and sky greet participants.
Weather-appropriate garden gear will be available for use during the garden nook. Please include any important feeding and dressing details on your registration form. Play will be child-directed and adult-supported. The place and pace are meant to allow the children to find their explorations and passions. A general rhythm will be set by the basic cadence of "breathing in and breathing out". This means the children will be allowed time to process and explore upon arrival. Then, there will be a presentation of practical garden tending modeled by Teacher Lin. As children have an interest, they may take up the activities they observe: watering plants, sifting sand, sanding wood planks, pushing wagons, digging, and harvesting. The children will hear soft singing of nursery songs. All experiences will be in response to the children's interests and expressions.
At approximately 10:30 am, as the free play continues, Teacher Lin will sit to prepare harvest items to go home with the children. The children may join in or play. At approximately 11 am, an organic vegetarian lunch will be served. Parents may come to sit behind their child and share the experience with some light conversation. Lunch will conclude at approximately 11:30 am. Children may transition back to their play. Parents may remain in the children's space. Some nursery games may be enjoyed if the process leads to this activity. Some may want a slower transition toward the conclusion of garden nook. Others may slip away for more adult and child separation time. Whatever feels right for the adult and child is respected. Closing transition begins at 11:45am(removing garden gear, freshening, and trailing back to the Front Garden for goodbyes).
